Professor Rhodes holds a B.S. degree from Texas Southern University, Houston Texas, and a MA degree in Education from California State University, Dominguez Hills. Graduate studies include course work at Texas Women’s University and Pacific Christian University. While serving as Tenure professor at Los Angeles Southwest College for 33 years, she considered the most distinguished scholar in the Child Development Department recognized as “The Students Professor”, who encourages, inspires and finds most importantly that true education is the rewarding experience. Toni is known for creating a nurturing, comprehensive, learning environment that is truly energizing, engaging and motivational.
Her planning and leadership skills were demonstrated in stellar fashion in her role as Women’s Athletic Director, Women’s Center Director, Coach of Track and Field and Tennis, Chair of the first Early Childhood Education Conference at Los Angeles Southwest College: “Our Children’s Education: Our Link to the Future, Annual International Education Day, “Strategies for the Development of the African American Manchild” Conference, Staff Development, Community College Health Fairs, Career Pathways: Child Development Graduate Recognition, Week of the Young Child, and many others.
For several years, she has been listed in the “Who’s Who in American Universities and Colleges”, “Who’s Who Among American Teachers”, Recipient of the NISOD Teaching Award for Excellence, Recipient from the Department of the Navy for Sustained Superior Performance in teaching (Upper Heyford, in England), and Golden Life Soror in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
